Breaking the cycle

One of the great things I remember in my childhood was being able to wake up every morning and having my father in the house. It does take a village to raise a child but in the same breath it takes a man to raise a man. There are certain things that happens in a young man's life that he cannot talk about with his mother. In no way, shape, or form is that a slight on the single mother. the single mother has unfortunately become the only stable parent in a lot of our homes. That forces mothers to be fathers along with their motherly duties. This is a cycle that needs to be broken, the mothers should be applauded for our their work, but as men it is our time to take the reins as the heads of these households. My father and I are are ready to apply as much of our time as possible to help fill the void of absent fathers. Our vision is to be a stable male figure in the lives of these young men. We want to spar the mind of the children that will make a change in St. Louis for the better. Through our Barred but not Broken Foundation which focuses on the children of of incarcerated parents, and the programs we will implement to help male children in the greater St. Louis community weather their parents are locked up or not we will make strides to break this fatherless cycle and feel that void. We will need help so men of valour are welcomed to donate their time and effort to assist us. Lets do all we can to make our future bright through these children.

The Day

It is almost like the night before Christmas for a young child. The excitment grows so much that getting to sleep is nearly impossible. You go through you blueprint of pulling this off over and over again. It becomes second nature to you almost like you were programed to take on this daunting task from birth. Of course you are not of age to drive yourself to pull this maneuver, so the help of a driver is critical. No driver the plan doesn't get off the ground in the first place. The thoughts start circling your mind about is she going to wake up, isn't she? I know he wont wake up, he doesn't agree with the plan from the get go. If she doesn't wake up you will never forgive her, lol. If she does not wake up you will more than likely never talk to her again...ever. You toss and turn until 5 A.M. finally arrives. After 6 hard knocks on the door to their room and 10 dirty words from the HATER she emerges already dressed. You allow yourself to smile every so slightly knowing that their is still a lot of adversity ahead. What if you are to late, what if the mark doesn't come through on their end of the bargin, how many other people planned their capture too! You try as hard as you can to silence those doubts as you approach the drop point. The line is long but you find a in, the gate keeper summons you forward. Its your time, u make the exchange, you hold back your grin but as you see your partner in crime you hold up the prize and smile like you you are in a koolaide commercial. Your perfect plan came together, you have your first pair of Air Jordans........

My Buddy

I had a few friends growing up in St. Louis and that was all well and good with me. I never been the type of guy that needs to have a lot of guys around to have fun. Between the voices in my head, my Ninja Turtles, and my vivid imagination I was always good. It wasn't until the summer of 1996 when my buddy came into the picture and he hasn't left since. My father brought him into my life and I thank him for it everyday. I mean you too should remember the first time you heard The Chronic. The beats, the lyrics, the skits. I new from that day on I didn't have to rely on friends in and out my life because I had gangster rap. In 96 I wasn't ready for the stories that Biggie spat, or the political side of Pac. Dre came down to a level even I could understand, using the same stuff I heard everyday around the way walking home from school or to the boys club. Even my own home for that matter, the Davis men use a lot of four letter words in order to express themselves all the time. The feeling of listening to that tape(yes tape) on repeat was probably one of the best days of my life back then. The love of Hip Hop would not come until my soph year of high school, and with that came with music growth. 1996 will forever be embedded in my brain for the sounds of one Dr. Dre and the G Funk movement. That is all...

Pretty Woman

A great movie in American cinema came on last night. One of those movies where anytime it comes on I have to watch commericals and all. Its Pretty Woman.(pause) It got me to thinking about some of the women I have encountered in my life and I had to share. This may step on a few bunions but its just may take on it. If it happen to Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman I know it can happen to me. Some women really believe that they can run around and do whatever they want with all the men they please or strip and some rich ballplayer, rapper, actor, baller will look past them being promiscuous and find the girl next door that's deep inside them. To this I say look to another Julia Roberts great, Oceans 12. In this movie if you remember the daring plot involved Julia playing Julia in order to steal a egg. That's what a lot of these Pretty Women type of girls do as well... they play themselves. You play yourself if you believe in this fairytale because the .008% it really works out for is nothing compared to the 99.98888% that are left high and dry. Don't get me I know some women gone be like men do it all the time. They sleep with all the girls they want and then "settle" down with a girl unlike none they ever dated. Its a double standard and its not fair but that's life. I don't make the rules I just live by them. Now normally I am a advocate of not listening to dream crushers seeing the in NFL has brought all mine out the woods, but sorry! I cant let my sisters believe in this no more than letting Trey(best nephew ever duh) believe in Santa Claus. No fat white man with rosey cheeks gone come around the way let at nite sneak in and give free toys. Furthermore no man in his right mind gone wife a girl that been with the basketball team...JV and Varsity. Think about it ladies...that is all

Kids say the darnest things

My nephew is Anthony Dewey Davis III. He is the prequel to two great men and by all accounts of his early endeavours he will add to what his father and grandfather have done on this earth. The kid is the total package, hes handsome, funny, smart, and aside from his knock knees he got from his moms side of the family he looks to be a promising athlete. The first time I held him I fell in love. I just remember myself whispering in his ear as a infant that he is a price and that I got him. I new then the same as I do now that I wouldn't let Trey hit the ground even if i was falling myself. He my little killer.I am not a constant in his everyday life but video chat on the computers has allowed me to talk and see him more. Every time that kids says Uncle Jason I have a koolaide smile on face from ear to ear. He has become a little parrot, he repeats everything and we try and watch our Davis vocabulary around him. I use to joke with my brother that I wish IPhone had a App for seeing my nephew and low and behold Tony starts video chat with me almost everyday. I am anxious to see the maturation of young Anthony 3.

O Forreal?

Kayne this and Kayne that is all over the Internet today and rightly so I suppose in this modern world we live in, but when is too much attention enough. Was he out of line? Yes. did Taylor Swift deserve that in her moment? Of course not. Its a easy cop out to say that this was a mere case of Kanye being Kanye, but its not that serious. This wasn't the Oscars, nor the Grammys. This was the MTV VMA awards. I mean give me a break. Even the Oscars and Grammys are just awards shows at the end of the day. Its not the end of world for either of the parties involved. That's the right side of my brain, lets switch to the left. If I'm not mistaking the ruler of the free world was making a speech in front of not only our country other countries via satellite and was also interrupted! There was an out cry but it seems to me that the VMA uproar was far greater than this one. This is our President people give me a break. Sure Taylor went four times platinum, but she doesn't run arguably the strongest country in the world. I find that odd. We need to check where our priorities lie. And check all the NIGGERS being addressed to Kayne on twitter, its crazy. I sure as hell didn't see blacks calling the congressman and CRACKER for spazing on Obama, I mean at least not publicly. Some of you know how racist old black men are behind closed doors, but that's another blog another day. That is all...

How I stay faithful in a room full of .........

Man is a hunter. In all man does it is based on instincts passed down form generation to generation. We have a need to sow our manly seeds at a rate that would make a bunny rabbit blush. We condition our minds like this for years that the more women you lay with the more of a man you are. The inevitability will happen one day and cupid will shoot us all through the heart with his poison tip love arrow. That one girl, that one your parents love and you homeboys don't mind much. Sure they say you are whipped, but for the most part they see the positive change she has brought along in you and they approve. The question is when you tie the knot is it game over? I mean, for years you have been out in the wild as a young predator that had his style of trapping down to a science. You finally got it just right and its time to settle down and be with one woman. Of course that doesn't stop the prey from grazing around you on a regular basis, duh. The natural instincts are to continue to hunt, but hunt discretely. Is that fair to your current mate? You probably wouldn't know this if I didn't tell you but I'm a American Heartthrob. With that said I go through the same things now that I am married that my fellow hunters do but I like to think in my mind anyway on a higher level. The level is high(in my mind) because of the platform the Lord has giving me in being in the NFL, and the lack of esteem and values that comes along with a lot of the women who gravitate to pro athletes. You know, gold diggers. So I pose again," How do I stay faithful in a room full of Hoes?" The key word in that is faithful. Take off the ful and look at the root word faith. The faith I have in the Lord for answering my prayers in allowing me to marry my wife is far more powerful than any short term pleasure a promiscuous girl could provide me. sounds simple enough right? NOT! Its hard and is a everyday battle. I will share a few ways i handle it tomorrow for now that is all.....

The Name Game

The debate of which is better when it comes to football, the college game or the pro game? Although they are the exact same sport, with the exact same rules and objectives, but the games are vastly different. We can sit here and argue that the age difference and speed is what separates the games from one another but I am not sure that is it. The pride the the college athlete has in their school and the tradition of that school in my opinion far exceeds that of a NFL player. The free agent era has forced once loyal fans to root for the jersey rather than their favorite player. They cannot allow themselves to get to attached to the "favorite" player out of fear that gut would leave for more money or the team would run him out of town for a younger cheaper version of him. We know that every year Florida will play Florida State, or Michigan will battle Ohio State, and the biggest of them all..... ILLINI vs northwestern. Yea I said it. These kids are going to fight like hell on the weekends then attend HIST 200 during the week. You got to love it! In the NFL we have short memories and deep pockets that help sweeten us up after a lose. With the exception of a few "pro" college programs these kids don't get paid and in turn they are playing for the name on the front and not the name on the back of their jerseys. Now don't get me wrong the NFL is intense and i love it to death, but this blog is from a fans perspective. I am and always will be a fan of this game, that trumps being a player any day of the week in my book. That is all....

Fullback or Dinosuar

It all starts in youth football for all of us. Ours dads have in their minds that their son is the QB or the start halfback, but if you ever played this game you already know that it doesn't always workout like that. I have been a fullback for years now and every year that i play it feels like each new season brings a less dominate roll in NFL offenses. The run game is the catalyst for a productive offense and one of the key components of ced run game is the offensive line, duh. To add to that any good offensive mind will tell you that the edge you gain in the run game comes from the tight end and FULLBACK positions respectively. So if that is the case do we only keep 1 tight end on active rosters? Yes I'm ranting but it angers me being a fullback that we are so often taken for granted and looked over. As a fullback we have long ago gave up any notion of fame from what we do, yet we accept a humble existence where our only glory comes from paving the way for a 1,000 yard back. We all except that, maybe we get a flat route or dive on the goaline. OC throws us a bone. Why are we punished for playing this position? To say you are committed to the run game yet only say one is worthy of being on your roster is counter productive. Fullbacks of the world unite we cannot allow or position to continue to be overlooked and taken for granted. Maybe this is preaching to the choir, but we are damn good players to regardless of what position we play. That is all...

The Odyssey

Every since I came into the NFL its been a host of cities teams and jobs. The constant ups and downs will drive a lesser man insane, but I take it all in stride. I never get to high or to low, its said you are never as good as they say you are and never as bad as they say either. The Eagles, Bears,Raiders,Bears, and now Jets. My wife and I have moved so many times that the movers have US on speed dial. In light of all the moves and all the cuts I wouldn't trade this experience in for the world. The NFL is a blessing that can be taken for granted by no stretch of the imagination. I thank the Lord when I am cut and thank him more when I am cut. You have to give thanks in each situation regardless of you being up or down. Life is not defined by football by any stretch of the imagination but I love the opportunity and don't take it for granted. Stay tuned to where I end up next.

Breakfast Club

I wasn't drafted coming out of the U of I in 2005, I barley got a scholarship to a D1 school coming out of high school, and I have never been the "star" player on any team that I ever played on. With that said grinding to be on top is not hard for me, its been a part of my life. When ones back has been against the wall for his whole playing career a chip the size of the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas tends to form.  The fact that I tend to get overlooked or get the short end of the stick in my career does not take place of the hunger I have in my belly to be the best fullback ever. I didn't grind this far to just be on the team or just be a "guy". No, to me that's dying because I'm settling, and I refuse to settle or get comfortable. The G.O.A.T. at my positions is what I wanna be and although its not a easy or short term task it is achievable. That's why I Put myself in the Breakfast club, I get up early in the morning to get a little workout in because I feel like the other guys wont! See you at the top.

Fatherhood

Fatherhood is one of the cornerstones of the the family and it has been lacking in many of our black homes. This is nothing new, this epidemic is nothing new in our communities, but its something that is increasingly becoming a bigger and bigger problem. I was blessed to be raised in a household where i went to sleep and woke up with a man in the house everyday so I don't know any other way. A lot of friends were not as blessed so my father shared a lot of his fee time with the neighborhood kids in order to try and fill a void they had missing. Fathers have to break the cycle some way in order to provide young men with part of maturation needed to go from a young man to a man. Its a situation we all can fix and work on together. Lets get get get get it.

Double Overtime

My beautiful God daughter Miss Kyra Tristiana Hayden was dedicated to the Lord Sunday so as a proud God Parent my wife and I attendance was mandatory at House of Hope church at 10am. No problem right?????........ WRONG! WRONG! The Bulls played the Celtics at 12pm on the other side of own. Ok Ok they not gone get the kid we make it to the dedication by 10 and be out by 11:30 tops miss the pre game and be in my court side seat. Yea court side I failed to mention we were sitting next to Messy Jesse Jackson! He a Reverend and he even skipped church for the game Shm. I was good but i forgot to factor in a how long a baptist preacher and stretch a sermon!  The word was good and it touched my soul, but of course he held the bay dedication to the end of service and it was all of 120 seconds long. I'm pulling my hair out at this point because its 12:45 and I'm getting text from my teammates who is already there on the latest. Oh, forgot to mention this was one of those major churches and getting out of church was like leaving a Jay-z concert. I'm full blown panic attack by now but I speed to the west side drop the bears line on the parking lot attendant and park free to enjoy the best playoff game I have ever seen with my own two eyes!!!! Love you Kyra duh.....

Bought my mom a purse now she Louie Vuitton Mom

It is a blessing for anybody to see another year on their life, but when it is your mom its a even better sensation. The woman that is responsible to bringing my bighead self (Ebonics) into this world deserve just that.. the world. I have yet to hit my number in the NFL but I can provide my mother with the same excitement and joy that she use to pour into me with Ninja Turtles and Jordans. I no material goods don't equate to love but a little reciprocation never hurt nobody. One day I want to get her a sports car, something American to help the stimulus but a car nonetheless. So a toast to my girl that brought me into the this world on her birthday weekend. I love Julie Davis, drunk singing off key," AND MANNNNNNYYYY MORRREEEEEE!!!!"

Bidding Wars

Midnight on Wednesday marked the official start of the modern day slave auction I like to call the NFL free agent period. Some winners and losers will be labeled in these next few days based solely on the salaries they are able to garner from the teams that anxiously bid on them. Sports has always rivaled a slave trade or meat market of sorts and this free agency period nothing but adds to the folklore. The highest bidder and richest owner will get the best player available for the right price. Probed and prodded men go through the slim shameful physicals to make sure they are damaged goods in order to secure that guaranteed portion of their contracts. Its a circus of sorts but a circus that I often dream and wish my turn would come to be sold to the highest bidder! Rhoden said it best in his book," 40 Million Dollar Slaves" Indeed we are... proud, I don't know but the facts are there and similar to the trade that's a black eye on this countries history.

Turn my Swag Onnnnnn

Everybody think that they fly or they "swag" is at a all time high. Sorry to tell these guys but there is nothing new under the sun its not how you do something its how its done. The thing about being a fashion conscious person is staying in your lane.  What looks good on one person does not mean its a automatic for you. These skinny jeans and large sneakers work for some guys but everyone should not indulge in them. Scraf swag is to getting a little over used in my opinion but it comes down to your lane and your comfort/confidence level. If it look good on yo, then... It looks good on You. Don't mind the fact your jeans so tite you can bend down to tie your shoe, or that your mom cant find her favorite shaw because you got it on. Shm. My style is on another level because i wear my clothes well and I am confident in my choices. It very simple for me, for the most part its Adidas jackets and tees, and if i got to step out its Polo sweaters and button ups. When I throw on Polos my shoes normally end in vowels... Prada, Gucci, Louie duh. Catch up ninjas, remember do you and be comfortable. Confidence is the best accessory you can wear.

Look at the Wheelssssssssss

The fascination with cars and the wheels we put on ced cars has become a all out obsession in our material driven world. Whats the fuss about? They are wheels and when a person decides to put these wheels on their whip they take on a whole set of responsibilities they did not have to encounter before. You have to drive differently from now on. One has to out right memorize every individual pothole in every barrio to avoid the dreaded bent rim. The bigger the rim the thinner the tire, now I live in the Midwest and we need thick tires in the Chi-Town snow...duh. Devils advocate for a minute, on some cars they do look awesome but that is not the queston. The queston here is does the means justify the end? For me no, but for the nest maybe. That's why we live in America people. The only problem I have with rims really when people start to put too much stock in them. Whatever you put your all in becomes your God, and if something either than God becomes your God than our Lord and Savior gets replaced. Not good. Moderation is key in any material goods and never forget where the blessings come from. How bout this little tidbit... When you are in your car driving on your wheels, you cant even see them. To get your satisfaction you have to look at the eyes of people on the street to see if your rims even look good. Shm. As for me, no chrome on the wheels I'm a grown up foreal.

Jesus Loves Porn Stars!!!!!

As believers we can sometimes turn our backs on what either we or the church deem as unfit to be in the house of the LORD. This harsh reality is sadly what keeps a lot of people searching for a relationship with Christ away. Some of the most judgemental people on this earth reside in vestibules and pulpits across this country. At the PAO conference in San Diego this past weekend confirmed that Jesus does in deed love us all, when I preacher spoke on how even someone as "vile" as a porn star can even find a place in the Kingdom of Heaven> Please remember that the son of GOD died for our sins and his grace alone is what can help in our walk with Christ and our eventually trip to Heaven. We all have bad deeds and good, but as long as the Good out weigh the bad with forgiveness asked of these sins you can still sit next to the father. It is just that easy. No sin is worst than another in Gods eyes. Sin is sin. That means the porn start to the shoplifter. Ask for forgiveness and mean it in your heart wholly to claim your spot in Heaven.

Gnagsta Grillz

I come from a the Gateway to the West, but it should really be called the Gateway to the South. I'll be the first to admit that we are some country folks. I live in Chicago now and they refuse sometimes that their roots are based in the South. I say that to say this, we didn't go to the dentist a lot growing up. The second time I went to the dentist was my rookie year in the NFL (great insurance Plan) and much to my dismay  had & cavities!  Today  had to get my my wisdom taking from me. The D.D.S. said that now they are not a problem, but later he feels like it could be. I think its more than a factor of me having great insurance than a health risk but that's me. I see why I was away from the the dentist so long. Every since he movie Little Shop of Horrors the dentist has not be my friend and for good reason. I would have been better off following my St. Louis/Mississippi roots and got my mouth full of gold teeth....

We are not the same I am a Christain...

I often have very strong views on religion and church in the fact I don't always understand the reasons behind church if I have a relationship with God. It is a cop out on my part, it is a way to make the word fit my life rather than me fitting to the word. Sure there are bad apples in the church but not enough to warrant me not attending. See the bible says when two or more are gathered than to the Lord is in the mist. It always says that we need to be around believers because as iron sharpens iron a man sharpens another man. When did it become wack or offensive to praise the Lord or be proud of your relationship with the Lord? Its crazy, but the bible also says as believers we are to be peculiar to others who are of the world. I am in a constant struggle in my walk but as long as I stay in my word I will not go astray.

California Love

My wife and I will be in the sunshine state for the next 5 days participating in a conference that brings Christan couples together through various building exercises. The backdrop to this series of couple building days is lovely San Diego, California. Now i have never been here but if Tony Toni Tone taught me one thing it is that it never rains in Southern California so I will enjoy these few days outta the Chi. Let us not forget the real reason we are here as well, Jess and I will only grow in our marriage as we go in Christ. Our views on religion are not always on the same accord but we are trying to obtain the same goal and end result. I brought my chucks and i learned the dress code out here. I don't want my hood passport revoked so i will abide to the rules of the land, at the same time STL will be well represented here. They will be able to tell how I walk I ain't from around here!

The Streets are Blogging

We are truly in the age of technology. It is what drives our nation and feeds our every growing need to be in contact with the world. I often find myself glued in front of my MAC for hours in search of news, politics, sports and when the wife is in a mood even porn. I will come clean on it you other guys do too. I started this blog because I read a lot of peoples blogs and figured hey I can do this. I love to read others ideas and views on various things. In my opinion it is the best way to learn diversity and how all sorts of different people feel about themselves and others. Blogs have vastly become a multitude of news media relations and spin cycles to get ones "truth" out to the masses. Its a beautiful thing and I hope all that read this start there on.

Whats Beef????

I love hip hop, it is a part of my everyday life. I use music period as the soundtrack to my life the same as in a movie, yet hip hop is at the head of this deal. I don't go out on the field on Sundays without either listening to 2Pac, " Ambitzions As a Rider" or Freeway, " What We Do". Like this is how I pump myself up.(pause) I know that RAP beef is a part of hip hop, and it is healthy and good for the game. You gotta be able to say yo I'm better than you and I'll prove through these bars. Nas vs Jay-Z for example was great for hip hop, and the end result was even better cause they were able to squash the beef(not rivalry, rivalry is good keeps you sharp) and work together on a few projects. Recently Bow Wow and Soulja Boy put out diss records vs each other with sharp swords and harsh words. I admit I listened to both songs and was like wow the gloves are off. Then like grown men not the young men they are the beef was deaded. Just like that... They sat down and came to a mutual understanding and moved forward. Wow. It begs me to think at 25(Pac) and 23(Big) could not do the same thing. No diss to the two younger hip hoppers but their bodies of work will never measure up to the two legends demos. Yet they will have longevity because they were able to let cooler heads prevail. The "New Nigga" will have to take a cue from the two rug rats of rap. Its to much money out here to let rap beef end your career or life.

False Phrophet....... all Profit

I consider myself a child of God. As in other areas in my life it is a situation were I need to improve, but how do I go about that improvement? I don't like to attend church for personal reasons. "So called Christians" beat us over the head with the point that we are bad people because we don't attend the "club" on Sunday in our best suits and give the preacher man his weekly allowance and scream and shout. Try to see over the lady in front of huge ugly hat from far back because of course the usher board going to make you sit in the way back if you not on the church "VIP" list. Smh. Church is a joke. Why should I attend church if my voice and the things I learn in bible study and change the world. God has blessed me to be on a platform through the NFL where I can reach so many young people and old people alike in a casual setting where they don't have to feel they are being judge by the ole so holy church folks. I don't need a suit or tie to bring people to Christ or even a offering for that matter. Church is big business and likens it self in my opinion to modern WWF with all its showmanship. I often find myself asking for forgiveness and for my Lord and Savior to understand me when I pray. I often feel no one else on this earth does, they look at me as if I have a third eye. I don't mind and I'm not stubborn either I want to attend church with my wife, but I just cant pull myself to it. Its not being true to myself or my conflictions with these false prophets. Remember this...America was founded by those looking to escape religious persecution so don't stone me because I go about my relationship with my Savior different from you. I don't want religion I want a relationship. See you at the collection plate.

America History X

America is a country that was founded by men and women escaping religious persecution. We are young as a country seeing the fact that the other countries were already established and booming for centuries before we were able to get our feet wet.  How can a country so young oppose its real so harshly to other countries in the world? Maybe its a bigger tougher persona we have, but when will other countries get fed up. Our oldest city is Philadelphia, all our other territories are babies compared to everywhere else. I stamped my passport a few times and although we are young as a country our arrogance is stifling. I'm proud to be a American but on matters of foreign policy we should not be the police for all the other countries. We should no our role a little more.

I got a good life man....

My 1 year old English Bulldog is the most confusing creature I have ever encountered. If men are from Mars and women are from Venus then where the heck are dogs from? Doughboy as we call him around the way seems to always stare at me like I'm the dumbest person he has ever came across. This guy farts all day and on a constant chase for food and the attention of every human he sees. If i decide its Wii or PS3 time he walks in front of the  tv or he sits on my feet and wine. I love him to death be if it came down to it and we had a intruder this lazy sack of Lima beans wouldn't do any thing! Its my fault I chose a dog that most represents my personality i thought and look how its paid off. Its your world Doughboy.

Black Hollywood?

This weekend the fellas and I planned a super bowl trip to the A. Now I been to Atlanta with my parents back in '93 to see MLK church and the memorial and all that but never been to the A! All the videos and stories you here are true. This place is bananas people. Black Hollywood is what I compare it to. Expensive clothes and cars make you feel like you aren't in the south but the sweet tea and the women that are thicker than snickers reconfirm your surroundings. The food in the titty bars are better than some restaurants I've been to and if that doesn't tickle your fancy please believe somebody is outside the clubs frying some kind of food. In Lew of coming off like Donnie Brasco I will not unveil the ins and outs of our trip just rest assured that it was all amazing. Atlanta... great place to visit

Can't we all just get along????

Man, when I look at the Rolling Stones or AC/DC , even Aerosmith and think about all that doe ray me they bring in touring every year. The prices for the tickets to these legendary bands are down right wrong. I am a hater but I will not knock the hustle of these old payers. However I will beg the queston what the F is Wu Tang Clan dragging their feet? They can sharpen their swords throughout the world by simply swallowing their pride and reunite. In hip hop a lot of ninjas rather swallow blood than pride, and in effect all the money that's out their for them is left on the table.  Why should hip hop be left out the other the hill tour group. I miss Wu Tang personally and I know I'm not alone in the love for the Shoalin Monks. The queston is raised.. Can we all just get along.

Day 1

After the fuss and buss is over and the dusk settles the real reason for all the celebrations is upon us. It was President Obama's first night in the office. I am sure he and the first lady graced the ovary office last night, but this morning the task ahead of him is huge. We voted for President Obama for change and in that change we must first e willing to change ourselves and let the process run its course. Let us not put to much on Mr. Obama's broad shoulders too early. We gave Bush 2 years shy of a decade the least we can do is give a new guy a shot. The labor pains are over its time to show us the baby. Go get em Mr. President.

Frank White

In high school I was so involved with the east coast vs west coast feud that i picked a side and rolled with it. My loyalty went down to the khakis and rags. My sag was so mean that my whole thigh was exposed. No Polos or Timbos in my closet. I an say now that I limited myself on a whole other genre or avenue if you will of music to hear and broaden my hip hop love. It was so bad that a certain rapper at Lindbergh High School use to infuse "Long Kiss Goodnight" lyrics into his "freestyles" and we were none the wiser. One day the light switch turned on me and I was hooked. The vivid story telling and his persona, coupled with how he rode the beat made it hard not to love this guy. Terms like " Black and Ugly as ever, however..." showed us all that with a little charisma and flare it didn't matter how a person looked. Frank White the king of New York is in all his splendor in the new biopic about his life.  I had to vent, but if you like Big or not go see this film and form your own opinion on the matter. If you love hip hop you will love this.We will always love you Big Poppa.

FYI my nephew Trey plays the role of the baby on the cover of Ready to Die....duh

Amerikkka vs America

This day is epic in the fact that on the late great Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday that the first black president is to be sworn in. A testament of where this country has come, or a bone thorn out during our worst economic down slide since the Great Depression? We are already embarked in a ongoing war so a war cannot help bail out our economy like it did for the Great Depression. How do we take President Obama's rise to office? It is a blessing no doubt, but its like college football in my opinion in the fact that yea we will give a darkie a head coaching job but he has to go to the worst program that is available at the  time. Brother Shannon does have the Miami job but after that it gets ugly. Now don't take my word for remember I'm so militant and pro black that I don't pick cotton out of aspirin bottles. Take me as a grain of salt. That said this situation will be hard for our new President no doubt, but we will all pull together and prove the nah sayers wrong and do our part to make Obama the best president ever. Smile down brother Garvey, brother Malcolm, and you too Dr. King. Our time is now.

R.I.P.

Today my wife and I jumped a plane to at 3:30am to go to Knoxville Tennessee for her great aunts' funeral. Aunt Sis as they called her was a woman I only met once but she was the first to accept me into their side of the Davis faction. The old saying is God get the good ones. I try not to harp on death by telling myself that accepting death is the sign of a good Christan.  But knowing me and how my brain operates if you have been reading my past blogs you know by now I think different. So let me get this straight Biggie and Tupac gone but Sir Mix-a-Lot and Vanilla Ice alive?........ Not fair. We will miss you Aunt Sis

She's so easy a caveman could do her.....

I may not even have to say this, but I will anyway. I wasnt always married! There was a point where I was still a internatinal sex symbol. O yea I too was a thundercat.. it takes one to know one. Thats why I am able to talk about them so vividily. Being a recovering thundercat if you will, means I have been on the scene with my share of fast women. Being a thunder cat makes you a predator and I fancy ed myself as a hunter gather when it came to these fast women. I observed them because in order to be successful you must know your prey. In my studies I found myself eager and dumbfounded. Some of these women will stop at know cost if they feel you can give them a little piece of their American dream. Of course their dream is goods that end in vowels ie Gucci, Fendi, Louis, and Prada. Smh. Poor thangs, let these guys act and do whatever for a designer label or a dead president. Now this ain't the mass but it is however of the mass that are represented in the world of the professional sports night scene. You can look like Buddy Hackket and pull a girl that look like Appolonia with the right tools. All you need is a little bread to turn pigeons on. So sad. But us ball players give them hope, we tend to pretty woman these hookers sometimes. So to all my thunder cats.....get it together. To all my Oceans 13 women on you Julia Roberts swagg, I'll never play you because much like the movie you will eventually play yourself.

Itis or not to Itis?

What is about our favorite comfort foods that knock us out faster than Mike in his prime. Tyson not Jackson duh. Them greens, mac n cheese, chicken etc etc has that certain effect on us that disables us from anything of substance for at least the next 7 hours. You get to nodding like a heroin addict if you add that pork to the mix. The corners of my mouth are watering as I write this when I think about candy yams and chocolate cake.  The queston is why do we bite the dust? Well i didn't go to Harvard so I cant answer that but I will say this, I refuse to eat that sort of foods in public. People tend to watch other races plates in restaurants to prove their stereotypes. People they want us to order the chicken! Keep the itis alive, but not in public. They cant know our Achilles heel we gotta keep it a myth that is unproven. They find out we in dream world after a good plate of soul food....... who knows what will happen if this falls in the wrong hands. And please please pleas don't feed the new President soul food  before a big decision has to be made! God help us all.

Dont Do it, reconsider

It comes a point in every ole thunder cats life where that right one comes along and he decides to hunt no more. What you will learn about me the more and more you read my blogs is that this is my life... I don't make this stuff up its my life or thoughts. So yeah I hung it up duh. June 28th 2008 was a players funeral at the historic Intercontinental Hotel on the magnificent mile of Michigan Ave. Homies and exes alike was telling the kid to fall back and think about this decision but I went in. I was tired of the groupies and I was so so tired of the so called independent women...Queston? Was a marriage at 24 what I imagined...... HELL NO! The ups the downs, the lack of video game time, asking can I hang with the guys, and my personal favorite the hormones!!! With all that said I love her now even more than when i got on that knee to bust that smooth move. I realized marriage like koolaide. Follow me, koolaide is the project patron our drink baby. Marriage in my opinion mirrors that in the fact its only as sweet as my wife and i make it. Its on us to make this think work. Its gone be hard, at one point one or both of us gone want out. That's a guarantee, but at the same time our marriage is a guarantee too and we in it for the long run.

Whips and Chains

An ugly part of U.S. history is the enslavement of blacks. A black eye on an already shady American history. With that said Native Americans were once too enslaved, but chose rather to die than to be slaves. The Africans for the most part allowed themselves to be controlled by whips and chains. The sad part about this is the trend I see today in sports, drugs, and entertainment. The first thing WE buy when We get on is a car, chain , or watch.  Sometimes all three. I say we because I"m not immune sadly. First NFL check I got went to a car, second to a watch, and third to a chain which none of the three i have today. Please don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the hustle I still will get a chain. All I'm saying is back in the days we were slaves and they controlled us with whips and chains. Now we get a little money and all we buy are whips and chains. Tradition? Hmmmm....

Stop Snitching??

So its not the "cool" thing to talk to the fuzz, yet every week I find myself glued in front of the tube watching "thugs" spill their guts to sed fuzz on the hit smash First 48. Ok quick rundown for those who arent in th know. After a murder it is said if headway is not made in the first 48 hours of the crime the chances of solving the crime is slim to none. These guys get on here and have a basic rundown:
Deny, Cry, Spill guts, and get Carted off in cuffs!

Classic tv, but it poses the queston.... If I wittness all these murders solved in a 30 minute show, why does Biggie and Tupac killers walk the street? Hmmmmmmmmmm
